Processor: AMD A8 Lllano or core i7?

So I'm buying a laptop over the summer, and both of these processors are intriguing me. Is the AMD A8 APU only worth it if you are not planning on using a discrete GPU. and if so, would it be better for overall performance to go with the i7 with a radeon 6*** or something?
